With the new year coming in, this is a fresh opportunity for you to start over and see the world in a new light. You might have some habits that can hurt your eyes which you should try your best to avoid this 2022. In this post, your expert on eye care and eyeglasses, Eyes on Norbeck, shares three of them.
Rubbing Your Eyes
All of us are guilty of this, even some of us might’ve been doing this while we were younger. A lot of people do this due to having itchy eyes, but rubbing it will only worsen the problem. This is because you’re putting unnecessary pressure on your eyes. Instead of scratching them, relieve the itch by applying a cold compress on it. If there is a foreign object causing irritation, flush it gently with water or visit your local eye doctor.
Smoking
Your optometrist will tell you that not only is this habit bad for your eyes, but also for your general health. Granted, quitting smoking isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially if you’ve been doing it for years. However, breaking the habit will increase your overall health and significantly reduce your risk of suffering eye diseases that will result in visual impairment.
Lack of Sleep
Getting lack of sleep can result in red, puffy, or itchy eyes. It’s important to get at least seven hours of sleep for your body and your eyes to rest completely. Keep in mind that looking at screens near bedtime can interfere with sleep, so keep those screens away before sleeping.
